TheFacebook.com, created in February of 2004 by 21 year old Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, is a student social network now active at more than 800 campuses, with more than 2.8 million registered users. [1] Among its features, TheFacebook allows a user to upload a picture of themselves and can include information about their favorite music, books, movies, their address, phone number, e-mail, clubs, jobs, educational history, and even political affiliations. Facebook is extremely popular, attracting on average 80 percent of a school's undergraduate population. However, there are some questions raised regarding privacy concerns on the site, and when some digging is done to find out who is really behind the site's management, there are more questions than answers.
Chris Kelly is Vice President of Corporate Development and Chief Privacy Officer for Facebook. At Harvard, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and was part of the founding team for the Berkman Center for Internet & Society.

Facebook provides report links for all content uploaded through a Facebook feature or application, as well as for messages received from non-friends. Users should contact the company through these links if they find something offensive on the site.
If for some reason you can’t use one of these links, you can email Facebook customer service through the form found on http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=419 under “I need to report someone for violating Facebook’s Terms of Use.” Facebook also provides a contact form on this page for reports of fake or impostor accounts. You can find this under “I need to report a fake profile or an impostor profile on Facebook.” Unfortunately, you must have a Facebook Account and be logged in to use it. So it's probably a good idea to set one of these up in advance in anticipation of such purposes. Once contacted, the Facebook staff will disable the account as soon as possible.

To report Facebook complaints about nudity, pornography, harassment or unwelcome contact, send an independent email to abuse@facebook.com. Facebook will acknowledge receipt of your complaint and begin addressing your complaint within 24 hours of receipt.
Unfortunately, Facebook does not have any other materials besides what’s on their Help, Safety, and Terms of Use pages but they are in the process of developing them.
Quitting Facebook Gets Easier
Aiming to address the privacy concerns of disenchanted users, Facebook.com said on Tuesday that it was trying to make it easier for people to delete their accounts permanently from the social networking site. Until now, Facebook has offered only a deactivation option, which keeps copies of the account’s personal information on the company’s servers. It is possible to delete an account fully using a cumbersome manual method, but it is difficult; many users complained that Facebook did not provide clear instructions. On Monday, Facebook modified its help pages to tell people that if they wanted to remove their accounts entirely, they can direct the company by e-mail to have it done. But on Tuesday, representatives of Facebook stopped short of saying the company would introduce a one-step delete account option. See the full story in the New York Times.
